Play Therapy allows children to experience internal healing through natural expression of their feelings and support in learning to manage intense emotions constructively with themselves and others. Play Therapy is useful to address anxiety, abuse, behavioral/conduct issues, sleep disturbance, inconsistencies in family dynamics, and adjustments such as separation, divorce, and death. With children, I take a nurturing and playful approach, which puts children at ease and allows them to feel safe and enjoy the therapeutic process.
Adolescent Therapy focuses on issues of anxiety, behavioral/conduct, depression, self-harm, and loss/grief. Common issues addressed include low self-esteem, coping skills, communication, chronic illness, abuse, trauma, and relationship struggles. My approach with adolescents is nonjudgmental. I help teens learn to understand action/consequence sequencing through developing critical thinking skills. I often take on the role of mediator between teens and caregivers so as to help bridge the gap in communication, resulting in empathy, validation and understanding.
Adult Therapy often addresses anxiety, adjustments, depression, and relationship issues. I take a direct approach and gently challenge my clients to take active steps towards resolving their pain. Together we explore the roots of the struggle, understand the scope of the impact, and develop strategies to reduce or eliminate the concern.
