In-Person and Virtual Sessions Offered
There are moments in life when you may look around and realize you no longer recognize yourself. You may be functioning on the outside by working, caring for others, and managing responsibilities, while internally feeling disconnected, uncertain, or emotionally distant from who you once were. I provide counseling for loss of self in Houston and online across Texas, helping you reconnect with your identity, your needs, and your sense of direction.
Loss of self is not always obvious. It can build slowly over time or follow a significant life event such as a relationship ending, grief, or prolonged stress.
It may feel like:
· Not knowing what you want anymore
· Feeling emotionally numb or disconnected
· Prioritizing others while losing touch with your own needs
· Feeling like you are “going through the motions”
· Difficulty making decisions, even small ones
· Losing interest in things that once felt like “you”
· Feeling unsure of your identity after a relationship or life change
· Questioning who you are or what your life is supposed to look like
Many people describe it as:
“I don’t feel like myself anymore.”
Loss of identity often develops in response to:
· Long-term relationships where your needs were minimized
· Divorce or relationship dissolution
· Caregiving roles or over-functioning for others
· Grief and emotional loss
· Chronic stress or burnout
· Trauma or emotionally invalidating environments
· Major life transitions or unexpected change
Over time, you may lose connection with your internal voice while becoming highly attuned to everyone else’s needs.
Therapy for loss of self is not about becoming a “new person.”
It is about returning to yourself.
In our work together, you may begin to:
· Reconnect with your emotions and internal signals
· Explore patterns that pulled you away from yourself
· Identify needs, boundaries, and values that feel authentic
· Rebuild confidence in your decision-making
· Process grief tied to identity changes or relationships
· Strengthen a grounded sense of self over time
This process is not about rushing or forcing clarity, it's about slowly rebuilding connection with who you are.
My approach is thoughtful, collaborative, and grounded in helping you reconnect with yourself: your needs, your voice, and your direction moving forward.
Together, we create space for:
· Clarity without pressure
· Emotional awareness without judgment
· Exploration of identity at your own pace
· Meaningful and sustainable change
You do not have to figure everything out before starting therapy. We begin exactly where you are.
I support women who are experiencing:
· Loss of identity after relationships or divorce
· Emotional disconnection from self
· Difficulty recognizing personal needs or desires
· Feeling “stuck” or uncertain about direction in life
· Burnout from caregiving or over-functioning
· Grief connected to identity change
Many clients come to therapy saying:
“I just want to feel like myself again.”
Feeling disconnected from yourself does not mean you are broken or beyond repair.
It often means you have been carrying too much for too long without enough space to reconnect inward. Therapy can be that space.
